Vision

To unveil the leadership qualities in students of mining engineering and impart knowledge of latest trends in mining and related industries to meet the present and future requirements of the industry embracing sustainability of the environment in order to produce well communicative, socially responsible and ethical mining engineers. To inculcate the habit of continuous learning, working in groups, safety at work, etc. for the overall development of the society in general, mining and related industries in particular adopting ethical means of profession.

Mission

• To improve the academic as well as co-curricular activities of the students. • To organize activities for students in order to develop their soft skills which would aid them in their career prospects. • To increase awareness of the students on the current state of affairs of the mining industry and to help them keep pace with the latest and emerging trends in the industry. • To organize guest lectures by prominent personalities to update students constantly on the basic and latest terminologies related to mining and general issues. • To promote active participation of students in sports activities for physical and mental fitness.

The Department of Mining Engineering at Anna University, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a significant part of the College of Engineering, Guindy. Here are some details about the department: History and Establishment: The Department of Mining Engineering was re-established in 1987 within the College of Engineering, Guindy. It is the only Mining Engineering Department in the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Pondicherry. The department caters to the needs of over 400 mines in the region 1. Programs Offered: The department offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs related to mining engineering. Students can pursue Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mining Engineering, which is a 4-year degree program. Additionally, the department provides opportunities for Ph.D. (Full-Time and Part-Time) and MS by Research programs under the Centre for Research (CFR) 2. Research Focus: The department engages in research related to mining technology, environmental sustainability, and health and safety. One notable research area is the integrated approach of ecosystem services for regional sustainability and mine reclamation. This research includes a special focus on health and environmental risks due to radionuclides in a clustered mining region of cement city in south India
