POLYMERS IN AGRICULTURE APPLICATIONS

Polymers are used in Agriculture as Drip irrigation and water sprinklers are two watering methods that utilize polymers. Greenhouses, which are often covered in a plastic polymer film, protect crops from elements and pests. Hydrogels, which are tiny polymer crystals, can absorb and store large amounts of water, releasing it slowly to plants.

POLYMERS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Polymers in civil engineering such as FRP bridges, glazed roofing, PVC doors and windows, and bridge bearings. FRP, or fiber-reinforced polymer, is a composite material that combines the advantages of both polymers and fibers to create strong, lightweight building materials. Polymers are widely used in civil engineering because of their versatility, affordability, and ease of fabrication.

Message from the HOD

Dr. L.S. Jayakumari

PROFESSOR

Welcome to the Department of Rubber and Plastics Technology at MIT Campus, Anna University, Chennai! Keeping the unique traditions of MIT and Anna University, the Department was started in the year 1988. It offers a B.Tech. Degree programme in Rubber & Plastics Technology and an M.Tech programme in Rubber Technology. For these academic programmes, the department receives the best students as inputs from the state of Tamil Nadu through the widely acclaimed single window admission system followed by Anna University, Chennai. The syllabi and curricula for the B.Tech. & M.Tech. programmes are designed to reflect the current needs of the Industry. The interdisciplinary approach of these programmes helps the graduates to do very well in their assignments all over India in diverse Engineering fields ranging from Rubber and Plastics, Automobile Components, software and IT industries besides a good number of them having proved as employment generators. The Department of Rubber and Plastics Technology, with highly qualified faculty members, is set to become a leading learning and research centre in the emerging domains of Rubbers, Plastics, Composites and allied areas of Engineering and Technology soon.
